Is developing game code easy process?

Question

Hi, I was always curious about how the games are made and I wanted to make a game of my own. Finally, I'm learning c++ and c# for the same, I was wondering what level of programming knowledge I must be familiar with before developing a 3D game (either 1st person or 3rd person narrative). My friends say game development is very easy, my teachers say it's difficult. I'm very confused, can anyone clear my query?
