Web Development Careers

Can I ask what might be a dumb question to the seasoned/highly experienced Web Developers - As I learn more about web development, it seems as though there are countless resources for a person to easily call themselves a web developer (uipatterns, bootstrap, dribble, github, googlefonts, etc). To me it seems like Open source means, open invitation to “borrow” someone else’s work. I guess my question is, is there much demand for web developers? (Especially with sites like Wix and Squarespace) does an employer expect you to write 100% of your own code? Are people finding much work as a freelancer? Thanks, John

1. These are very reasonable questions. Be confident! 2. Yes there are a lot of learning resources. And there are more and more every day. 3. Open Source is that, the source codes are made public. For public cooperation, it's not "borrowed", the contributors volunteered their work without rewards. 4. Yes Web developers are still needed, because those websites builder are very simple. For better user experience, frontend developers are needed. For connections with database, fullstack developers are needed. 5. Getting freelance job involves marketing and sales, you can be not good at web development but gets the job if you are good in sales and marketing. Try freelance site such as Fiverr, there are a lot of offers, if you create an account, then how to make yourself stand out? That's the challenge.
