How much SQL knowledge necessary for someone working as an analyst

I've come across job openings where experience with SQL is required. I may be wrong but since SQL is mostly used for database administration what should I focus on learning or what skill should I be able to demonstrate?

For a BA, its most important that you know that field of work. For example: Financials if its that kind of database.
And SQL, you just need to know the basics, because you won't be creating any DBs or tables. Just running basic SELECT queries.
