What is the best programming language to learn for automation of simple repetitive office tasks.

I am not a developer. I have a job which involves working with word, excel and pdf files mostly. I have to send a lot of emails and letters which are of standard nature with few exceptions. I want to automate some of these tasks. Which programming language shall be most useful for this purpose. I have had some programming at school and college and have a math background. Looking for a positive reply. Thanks in advance.

When working with Microsoft office, maybe visual basic (vba) could be a start.

Hiring a programmer is not feasible. That's why trying to learn myself.

Python, its syntax is easy enough to learn from nothing, and it does everything you want.
