In HTML, applet is just a tag that runs your applet application. Applets are actually written in Java.

Java applets are deprecated and shouldn't be used.

They are one of the dinosaurs of the past which are now extinct thanks to HTML5. Except you are planning to create an insecure website that asks users to download an extension to use it or f off, you don't need applets.

An applet is a small application designed to run within another application. While the term "applet" is sometimes used to describe small programs included with a computer's operating system, it usually refers to Java applets, or small applications written in the Java programming language.
