What language should I focus if I were to do a project submission.

I have to make a big project for my degree in computer science and I can't think of a big project that I can do in C++ or Java. (Android apps and websites are not considered project in college). What are the languages I should focus on and what kind of algorithms should I study. Thanks in advance.

Maybe a calculator for windows with some extra functions like history, square, root, scientific stuff...
Or a search tool or an application for desktop widgets like clock, weather, calendar...
