Can anyone describe in more depth, the tag target_parent please?

I have read upon this tag, and I haven't gathered enough description to understand its meaning. What does it mean, by opening the document in a parent frame? If someone can help me out that would be great thanks!

Parent means the parent window in a tree view. The window which is currently opened and active is the root. Each window you open from there in a "sub-window" is a child (e.g. _blank). If you open a link in the current / active / 'root' window, the target for the link is _parent. Is this understandable?

I have partially understood, but I still haven't gotten the bit where the target for the link is _parent.

Me and my father are trying to learn html, me being 13 and I try to understand my best so I can potentially explain to my dad too. When you have the link what does the added tag _parent do to the link? Sorry to bother you with such small things, generally we can't move on until we fully are on terms with these tags, thank you for taking out of your day to help us.

It's about the target where the browser is going to load and show the linked webpage.

It's corresponding to the action you can perform user defined, if you choose to open a link e.g. 'in a new tab'.
