It doesn't take years to become proficient in a language, one spends years becoming proficient at programming, learning new things, design processes, algorithms and patterns, etc. After learning a couple languages or spending enough time on one, learning others is easy and if you already have experience in other languages, you can become proficient in a language as soon as you are aware of its syntax and paradigm. This can take as little as a few weeks for experienced devs.
