Software Tester & IT Project Manager ?

Do software Testers and IT project managers need programming skills? If yes, How deep should the programming skills be? If not, what do you suggest to an individual aspiring to be software tester or an IT project manager?

Yes For a project manager having a background in coding might help in estimating time and resources needed to fulfill specific tasks. PM with some programming experience understands risks and issues tightly connected with the process of software developing - he or she won’t set an impossible deadline or delegate the task to unexperienced programmer. And for a tester if you study about this field, you will find out that there are 2 types of testing white box and black box. I would not go in details but where on one hand black box doesn't require programming knowledge, White box is totally code driven testing, so a tester should also be well versed with the programming language in which the program they are testing is written.
