Because it's easier to understand and start with. Beside that, the tools that we use to build website is lighter than when we build mobile/desktop apps. So even when you have Intel Celeron processor and ram 2gb you Can still code for website ussing text editor and browser

Another reason, there's so many internet marketing that use website as their platform. The reason is because it's lighter, simple, and don't do too much of phone storage. You can find so many attractive user interface website too out there, making people who see it don't feel bored.. and of course, website developer do have high income too base on their skills, experience, and what tech that they use when build website.. for ex someone who build website from framework JS or PHP like Vue and laravel, more likely have higher payment that people who's using WordPress when they build websites. So i guess that's why people tend to look for website dev
