If you want to use your computer for something more than programming then Windows.
If you are going to focus in your IT skills and dont want to use the computer for any other thing, then Linux.
Avoid Mac, it will try to jail you inside his OS ecosystem making a lot more hard work in an enviroment that combines different OS and will teach you anything about the others.

ĂmmørtÄL Linux is best because it's free of cost. But windows is user friendly so I will prefer windows. Mac is also good but it is costly.
Mostly companies use Linux for programming so you should have command on Linux also.
You can use dual booting in windows if you want to work with both Linux and windows. For this you should have atleast 50 GB space for linux where you can install linux.

Although it is free but still it takes time to get familiar with linux platform especially for a person who have switched from windows.
ĂmmørtÄL my advice would be go for windows if you want good gui interface(or if you are into gaming)
Go for linux if you are determined to learn it(but it will definitely help you in future as AJ already said that a lot of companies use it)
Or
If you want best of both worlds then go for macOS with good gui and Unix shell. But it comes at a cost of being expensive.

Short answer: it does not matter.
You can do almost anything in any operating system, although there will be a few minor differences, like in filesystem and terminal output. Maybe if you only program with C# you are better off with Windows, but otherwise pick what you like best.

Well, I did it like this:
I have a notebook running with Windows.
And another small computer called raspberry pi which works with a Linux system on it.
You can use a lot of different IDEs with Windows, but if you want to get a grip of the console, then I recommend Linux. I use my pi for that a lot to understand all those commands (like what means 'gcc' or 'ssh' and so on).
A typical Windows user has a comfortable life without seeing everything. If you use Google, you just see the search bar. You type something in it, press enter, that's it.
If you start to understand more and more, you see Googles searchbar like a for loop. That's my experience with those two.
Mac is expensive but I know some professionals who are working with that.
I hope I could help :)

With windows now being able to fully emulate Linux (windows subsystem) natively, I think there is no reason to switch to a linux distro if you are a windows user.(you can use vbox also)
They are not at all made for user experience. Even the simplest things can cost you hours of googling. And there is no assurance that you can finally do the task. Though if you have an ultra hacker mindset, a linux distro might be suitable for you. But I don't see any reason to use it outside a virtual environment. They are not very optimized for most hardwares. My PC takes about 15 minutes to boot into linux mint and memory leaks are very often.
As I haven't used Mac yet, I cannot tell you about that.
