At what point do you turn to forums?

When you are struggling to find a solution to a problem, at what point do you turn to forums? Apart from Sololearn, what are the best forums for beginners?

Michael In my experience, Stack overflow does not treat expert differently from beginners. As long as you abide by the rules you are welcome. Also Reddit is full of beginners. How can they be different towards beginners? To answer your rather open ended questionā€” Forums can not contain the amount of questions I have everyday. It is therefore wise for me to search Google or check documentations. I also find delight in exploring other people's code. I only ask questions in forums, when I think my questions can benefit others or if I can't find the results else where.

The web is filled with solutions, so I'll just search there. I'll turn to a forum if I can't find what I need.

When I spend too much time thinking and too much time looking for answers but can't find them. And by time I don't mean a couple of minutes, but hours or even days. I believe that looking for the answer yourself is the best way to do it. If you can't figure it out, look for similar questions in the internet. Forums should be the last step in trying to find the answer (unless you're in a hurry for good reasons)

Google & Stackoverflow, but only after I have made some attempts. However, be warned, it is rare to find code that is a perfect "lift and shift" (copy/paste) it usually requires some finagling

Thanks Steven M. But I've noticed forums like StackOverflow and Reddit don't have much patience for beginners.

Oh yeah, I dont typically asked questions on Stackoverflow, but its a great reference. To ask questions and have a discussion I find Sololearn is SO much better
