9 divided by 4 is 2, then the remainder is 1, which is the answer.

The operator that is used called modulo operator. It gives remainder instead of quotient. 9/4=2 9%4=1

Modulus operation or remainder, what is remaining. So 4 goes into 9, twice. 2*4=8 9-8=1 This is where the 1 comes from, it is what is remaining after
