13 / 3 ... 12 / 3 = 4... 13 - 12 = 1... Hope this makes sense if Tamra's explication was bad (which in my opinion is great)

Modulus gives the remainder of division.
Ex: 10 % 3 = 1. 3 goes into 10 three times, and 1 is left over.
