What does parcel do behind the scenes?

I don't really understand what bundling the files means, the main reason I ended up learning parcel in the first place was because I couldn't use packages in my page, for some reason they couldn't be found using ES6 import method. I learned how to use parcel today and the packges finally work on the browser, but I don't really understand why, what exactly was the problem before, and how exactly did parcel solve it?
