plain text editors, not word processors software... IDE (Integrated Development Editors) comes with specific features dedicated to code (syntax hilighting and many more) ;)

If you are on laptop or pc. you can use the above mentions but if you want a simpler and lighter then i recommend the Sublime text editor 3 which is around 10 MB. You can literally code any language on it and you will also get awesome packages there. Interface is also awesome. For android you can go with above mentioned.
