There are a few ways to "break in" without credentials, and they all involve doing projects to prove your skill. You can build a clone app. Find something simple and build a replica of it. A calculator, a game, a database tool, whatever. Post those on GitHub so that you have something to show. You can contribute to an open source project. If you have pretty strong skills, becoming a contributor to an open source project can be great evidence of your abilities. Do private projects for free. Find someone who needs a website, or an app, whatever, and build that. Again, the goal is to prove you have coding skills. Any potential employer will want to see your code. HINT: When you write code, write it so humans can understand it. Format it properly, use good variable names, follow conventions. Then host it on GitHub to show you know about version control, etc. Other than that, you can try for an internship somewhere. If you want to do small paid projects, sign up on fiverr.com and try that.
