GNU means? can u tell me brief info. about it?

@Jaque: You are confusing GNU and open source, I think. GNU is a set of open source utilities that make up the core of a Linux sys (file utilities etc), not necessarily the Linux kernel. There is a GNU kernel, true, but it's not yet production ready so the Linux kernel is used instead on Linux systems.

GNU stands for "GNU not unix." GNU is usually used with linux as the kernal, for example I use debian on my laptop for work. It's a free OS similar to unix. If you decide to use linux there's more like GUI which is graphical user interface, I use KDE on my laptop and gnome on my desktop.
