When you host your website or web app, you host it in a web server with a hosting provider. You need a domain name for hosting.
E.g. www.yourname.com
What you have hosted? Files
Files have their path with name, right?

When someone wants to access the website they will enter the domain name. By default the server will respond with the homepage.
www.yourname.com/index.html
www.yourname.com/otherpage.html
