Why are not all website URLs beginning with www?

I have searched movies online and there are many links which begin with ww3 or w0. Does anyone here know what this means or why this is used? Apologies but not sure what tags to include in this.

www is a subdomain used to distinguish a website in a domain from other servers or services. Basically, www means "World Wide Web". And today it is common to see variants of this subdomain such as w3, etc...

You have to perform an additional configuration with your DNS to add this ww2 route as well. It is mostly used for load balancing purposes as FF9900 explained, so it should be pointing to another server hosting the same web services most of the time. But yes it is also possible to create an alias for www.example.com named ww2.example.com.

Could you give me an example of how this would be created? So, if I have a website with URL www.example.com, how would I create a route to direct ww2?
