Which languages may be used to programme it?

Default is LabView, a so called graphical programming language. Java is possible, too. Mindstorms JVM for Java is called leJOS.

Always used the default drag-and-drop interface for programming smart bricks. It would be great to C++ that dank shat tho.

a drastic hack/alternative: substitute the "smart brick" with your fawourite MCU. it may open a wide range of possibilities...

I second @seamiki's idea. The Danes have recently developed the official Lego stick-tape, so you can embed any CPU-based board with it. Or any item, for that matter :)
