What's considered appealing when it comes to github?
Maybe it's like most other things, you can either go for the big bang, see what is "trending" and jump on, hoping you're early enough to catch the attention of the trend or you can look to do things that people always value/need and do that, or you could do what's special about you and wait for the correct match.

Github is primarily a platform to backup, share and deploy code projects. Are you referring to your Github profile page? Or from the perspective of Github as portfolio?

Anyways, a first step could be that you get clear about who your target audience is and what they particularly appreciate and pay attention to.
