Any idea as to why the last 2 test cases are not going through, also, any advice on how to simplify the code?

And figure out what you missed and your code have lot of comments
You don't have to comment every single line of your code and you have to comment why we use it like that not what that code does because that code is self explained
For example
# return a number
return num
We can see it returns a number by seeing it we don't need a comment there
