What is HyperText?

I read that hypertext is a combination of graphics, images, texts, hyperlinks, audio and video etc. But what does that mean? Is the whole document containing these things called a hypertext or what?

Hypertext refers to a type of electronic text that contains links or hyperlinks, which allow users to navigate between different parts of the document or to other documents on the web. The term "hyper" comes from the idea of links taking the user to new or additional information, creating a non-linear structure that allows for exploration and discovery. So, when you read that hypertext is a combination of graphics, images, texts, hyperlinks, audio, and video, it means that hypertext documents can contain all of these elements, and the links between them allow users to jump between them. The entire document containing these elements and links is often referred to as a hypertext document. However, it's worth noting that not all electronic documents with hyperlinks are considered hypertext. For a document to be considered hypertext, it should have a non-linear structure, allowing users to explore and navigate the content in a non-sequential manner.

I read in wikipedia that generally hypertext refers to a text with a hyperlink but it can also mean any presentable thing with hyperlink(like image, graphics, videos and audio...). 💫💚💥Anushka💥💚💫 Sony Hossain

Sony Hossain I was just saying that hypertext is not necessarily a text. It can be image or any other presentable thing.

i think it is a type of text that contains links to other texts or resources, allowing users to navigate and access information in a non-linear way. where web pages are interconnected through hyperlinks. Hypertext allows users to easily access related information and explore topics in depth by following links to other pages, documents, or multimedia content.

Siddharth Verma I didn't understand that linear and non-linear structure 🤔. Does linear means that you will have to reach the desired elements after a series of elements containing it or placed before it in page( i.e, going through normal flow) ?
