Java is a lot more difficult than python and there is a lot more technical things evolved. But java is way better for large business softwares. I've been part of big projects, single worth of 6 - 20 millions with hundreds of thousands code lines and never a python is used for the main code. I think python is better for small projects and I always use it for my own softwares. Its hard to compare since there are cases where either could be used. When it comes to internships and software engineering jobs I suggest to focus fully on Java.

Java is much harder than pithon if you want to learn java, you need learning 3 years, only java and one mabe 2 years all sprin, and you will need to learn Javascript and sql and many another things. If you will learn pithon you need to learn more things but it is easy.
