You can think of schema as a "container", a group of related objects in the database, such as tables, views, and stored procedures. In some database engines, the schema is equivalent to the database "user" who owns the objects created by him/her.
Schema can be useful to segregate different functionalities, in terms of security and access, to these logical groupings inside the database.
