All mods and Experts [closed]

I am new to programming, and enjoy using this app to learn the basics. I want to to know what a pro can gain from using this app? What makes being a moderator on this app worth it?

Why ? well, i don't get paid for being Moderator. and i don't do this for fun. and i don't like beat someone below my level in challenge too. i simply do it because i believe in hope. as teacher, i see a lot of teenages who lost their way. they don't have hope they don't have role model. but here i see a lot of talented teenages. they have hope. and many expert that becoming role model for them, even if they don't realize it. THAT is community. They make a lot of mistakes and they also naive. but the courage to improve their skill eventhough the road is long and harder is something that i am proud of. and many adult here who want to try something new and think out of the box. or simply want to get help learning about programming. or try to help someone. THAT is humanity. i am not here to get money or to get a job or to show off myself Just want to learn, get a help and helping other. THAT is me

Yeah, I'm wondering that too. What's in it for pros since some of them are scared of having their codes copied, maybe they just want to meet other pros and gain XP for fun? And I wonder If users that unlock the mod badge get paid or something. I saw one of them writing "I'll get fired" for sending an email to SL eventhough he assured he was not part of the official SL staff. Maybe they want to be seen and hired by the official SL team?

I guess people who already code for a living would mainly use it for fun. Maybe also use it to learn a new language they hadn't had the time/need to learn before. And passing on knowledge to the next generation. This app could also be used to make yourself feel better and there's nothing wrong with a bit of boasting. When you spend a lot of time and effort in an app, you want more ways to help out. So, I guess, the mods are those who hope to maintain a friendly environment for all coders by looking after the Q&A.

Oh true that, there's some people like you @Kirk thanks for sharing your knowledge ☺👏 The person I most admire here at SL is like you too, @Kuba Siekierzynski, he's a pro and seems like he really enjoys teaching and helping people with python related issues and other sort of doubts 😊👌

@acfaJ (reversed name haha 👍) Yeah, I guess we cannot generalize but I'm not sure maintaining a "friendly" environment is what some mods are looking for. There was this post once I disagreed with most of them and the day after I started receiving the same amount of downvotes on my codes and on some answers (that were marked as best and upvoted by others), it's a little cowardly to go doing that now that SL has censured and won't let you see who downvoted. I'm afraid some of them just want to moderate on their favor. Others even make fun of beginners' questions and downvote questions written in other languages. I don't get it, why can't they just wait for someone who understands that language to answer it, if SoloLearn only wanted english speaking users then they shouldn't have made this app available worldwide. These mods don't tolerate cultural diversity, and that is not very "friendly". But anyways, I do support your point that some pros use this app to learn other programming languages 😊👌

@Paola Oops, maybe I shouldn't speak on behalf of all moderators 😊 (I don't think SoloLearn ever allowed you to see who disliked your post)

Some people like to teach. For me at least, one of the most rewarding things is to watch the clouds suddenly break and the lights turn on upstairs. A woman asked me once what I wanted from the information I gave her daughter. I told her I wanted her to feel empowered.

@Paola i don't think it work like that. 6 people upvote and 4 invinsible downvote from other people. so the result is 2 upvote.

@Paola I just downvoted your last post as a test, can you see me in the list ? 😉 I'll change it to an upvote after you've checked

@Agus it's the same, my example (4 upvotes & 2 downvotes) and yours (6 upvotes & 4 downvotes) both give you +2 My point is, downvoters were visible a few days ago.

@Jafca, hahaha it's fine 😊. Actually it did, not too long ago, a few days perhaps, maybe it was a bug, but for example if you saw an answer, with +2 upvotes and you clicked on it to see who the upvoters were, then the system would show you 6 people instead of only 2. That way you could know 4 of them were the upvoters and 2 were the downvoters 😮

There are things far more important than wealth, fame and power. Spirituality, for example, our preset ability as living beings to perceive what is right and what is wrong, which stems from feelings of love and fear. SL pros/mods are no saints. We are just here to do what we were born to do.

@Abner Great analogy! 😊 I guess SL is a good social experiment, sometimes it feels like Big Brother haha but I think the report button is enough too because some mods are abusing the downvote feature, and I'm afraid it should be used for technically incorrect answers about programming or spam ☺

@Manual really? I was able to see it. I guess that could be a bug because I'm on an old version of Android.

@Paola Just downvoted Cyrus' post. Can't see my name though. The way it works is what Tashi and others have said

@Tashi: yes that is how it works to my understanding too, but do you think someone would really downvote his answer?

Oh and to the guy with glasses who I just read that downvoted my previous comment as a test (You have no name on purpose??) I cannot see you on the list, maybe because it's my comment. Can you please go downvote @Cyrus' comment as a test?

@Tashi I found it hard to believe that someone would downvote Cyrus' answer but apparently that's what happened, I couldn't see Jafca or me on the list. No bugs then, just protected ghost downvoters as always. Thank you for testing this with me :)
