Unfortunately the answer isn't so simple. It has a lot to do with what you will offer as a freelancer. In many cases, people want you to know how to do the graphics, the design, the database, etc. They will want you to implement shopping carts or chat help systems on the website. It is a lot more than just knowing HTML. At the very least, you'll want to know HTML/CSS/JavaScript so you can work on front-ends. But you'll also want to know how to work with backends even if you don't build them yourself. You could try to install some popular packages on a website and learn to customize those. A lot of freelancers will learn a popular shopping cart system and only do that as a freelancer. In short, you'll want to pick some type of framework to become an expert at. Then you have a marketable service. To learn all this from scratch might take you six months or might take you two years. It depends a lot on you. I suggest you learn HTML/CSS/JavaScript and SQL. Then learn how to build your own website using those tools. Learn a framework like REACT or learn a package like WordPress or a popular shopping cart. The real key is start learning and keep learning. The rest will become clear as you move forward.
