Accidental membership charge and no refund

I was using Sololearn a year ago for coding. Haven’t used the service in 10 months and had no idea my credit card was still on file. I had thought I cancelled it as I was done using it. Woke up this morning to a 96$ CAD bill for a year membership. I emailed right away and got a response back right away saying no refunds. What the heck!?! Why would I have not received a curtesy automated email reminding me of up coming charge so this kind of thing doesn’t happen. Especially such a large one. I emailed them back for an exception and now it’s radio silence.

That's unfortunate. Surprisingly a lot of companies don't email reminders of upcoming subscription renewals. You can try initiating a refund through google play if you can't get one through Sololearn, but I would give them more time to email back. The first reply might be automated.

A little tip for you and others. After you purchase any auto-renewing service on any website, immediately cancel it. The subscription will remain until exhausted but will not renew. I always cancel everything that auto-renews. I have to manually renew everything. 99% of all companies will continue to honor the portion you've already paid for.

If the charge is so fresh, you might be able to go through Google or Apple. No guarantees, but it's worth a try. It is indeed disappointing to know there's no reminder, it could have landed in junk/spam.

Hello, It’s frustrating to get unexpected charges. Ensure you double-check your account settings and cancellation confirmation. Try reaching out again, emphasizing the lack of notification and the long period of inactivity. You might also want to dispute the charge with your credit card company if you can’t resolve it directly with Sololearn. https://www.dollartree-compass.com Best Regards, Julia Goff
