from where to learn algorithms

many people say to be a good programmer u have to develop skill... to face competition u need to have good command in java can anyone tell me from where i can learn these things..!

Algorithms are literally nothing but how you solve some problem basically what's the process.
to develop these skill i would just suggest to try to understand problem and break problem into small problems and solve them individually.
