I believe, NetBeans is good for beginners because there are lots of small-small things which makes it easier to use along with simple yet rich graphical user interface, easier to navigate. The plugins makes the tasks more easier. I have used it for developing all types of applications from web, mobile to desktop. NetBeans always impressed me. Set-up (installation) of NetBeans is also easy. We have to do lots of things manually in eclipse to make it work for our requirements. Ecplise is also a great IDE but I found it little complex and hard to navigate during start of my career. Eclipse was looking kind of Heavy Truck at that time. Things may have improved now in their newer versions. So, Just try both and whichever impresses you more. Go for it.
