Cause Netbeans has many great features.
More than notepad++
and is not much heavy too!

@dayve video lectures seems great. not sure about Netbeans, in these videos also they are using something else. how about notepad++ or anything else

For learner, netbeans is a better tool, will help you write proper php, with the template and intellisense helps.
For professional coder, they might prefer other editor like Sublime Text, which is light and faster response.
