Is the option to upvote my own posts really helpful?

If somone upvotes his/her own questions/answers/comments that doesn't count for badges or xp gain and I'm glad that it is like that. But why does the option to up-/downvote one's own posts exist at all? Is it only there to mess up the sorting by votes? Or is it useful in any context?

I guess the only instance where up-voting your own posts is gainful is: ~when your answer is marked as best, (single xp gain) ~when your post/code is downvoted, (to reduce the net like(s) loss, somehow) ~when you want to add more weight to your answer/question /code: speaking of codes, it can keep your codes on trending, seeing as every like, for a code , actually counts these days.... I personally up-vote my codes, to distinguish between private and public codes, seeing as I have 119 codes in total ... also, I can hardly resist the temptation to up-vote my 'bested' answers... All in all, the usefulness of own up-votes, is circumstantial: I conclude.

I 👍 it! My answer to the question below: "Generally, I upvote any answer that is right and downvote any answer that is definitely wrong. I believe most of my answers are fairly correct so I do upvote them so that they move up and other users can see them. Like visph, I try to arrange the answers by using upvotes (and sometimes downvotes)." https://www.sololearn.com/discuss/226025/?ref=app

I think this is a helpful question Tashi. I dont think it is a good idea to upvote your own questions because I think that makes those qs ineligible for "question master" badge. Answers Idk. i typically dont upvote my answers.

@washika I see, you use it as a sorting feature, too ^^ Just noticed now, that your own like actually gives you +1 xp when marked as best answer o.O Thx for the information.

@Jafca Yeah, I do that sometimes, but not on my own posts. I leave the choice if my answer is good or bad to others. Everyone thinks his post is good, why else would he post it? So everybody should upvote own posts? Actually I'm too lazy to do that, one click less for every post :)

for opinion based question, self mark is not necessary for poll based question, self mark is necessary to sum up total vote for anyone who want to get Self-Learner Badge, its very annoying feature. no matter what the type of question, self mark is optional. i 'll like it that way, so everyone can and should learn how to use it wisely.(especially user with Self-Learner Bagde questions)

i don't intentionally upvote my posts.. i don't remember specific instances but i have more than a few times by mistake while checking who upvoted a question i end up upvoting it. Sometimes it's not my post and i was not going to upvote it. Sometimes i unintentionally key in a downvote in which case i would upvote as a means of correction. i don't think it's wrong to upvote your own post.. Perhaps we should automatically tally an upvote when any user submits a post. So every post starts off with one Like, removing any Ambigiity.
