How long do you learn programming before your first project?

It's been some years now I've embarked on self-taught learning of programming languages using platforms like this and books. well, I studied Statistics but have a deep interest in programming. Right now, I'm confused as I haven't been able to execute any Project with it not even when I have many running through my mind. I start to think of programming is not meant for me. Any advice will be much appreciated!

It didn't take too long before I started trying things out. But quite a while before I made an actual project. My advice would be break the project into smaller steps and write down exactly what you want the program to do and then work at writing it step by step. Then peice all of the smaller projects together. Never give up you have got this!

Wow! what a insightful Response. Thanks so much for your encouragement. I will definitely take this approach. I will break down the project and tackle them unit by unit as well as seek help if need be.

My first project is a small one , so after I learn python two or three months, I try to solve some problem by using it. However, I immediately love on it when I saw it resolved the problem easily.
