every class has Object as its superclass. it is extended implicitly, so it leaves room for you to explicitly extend up to one class

actually a class can extend another class

example

the class dog extends the class animal

a class can be instantiate, example

the object 'puppy' instantiate the class dog

then puppy is a dog 🐕
