Well, this app just exists because of programmers, the OS of your mobile phone and it's functions (take pictures, make calls/video calls, access internet..), Video games since controls to the game itself, GPS's, Smart TV's, Intelligent sensors on cars and other stuff, Artifficial intelligence, Digital clocks, general commucation, buying/selling and money transactions, and much much more.

In other words, programming rules our modern world.

Necessary? Depends on your circumstances. For me, it isn't necessary, however it greatly simplifies my work life by allowing me to automate and reduce my overall work load. Additionally I find the process enjoyable mentally.

Every webpage on the internet was programmed. Programmers wrote the OS and all the programs and apps on your phone and computer. I could go on and on about the impact programming has on modern life...
