What is the purpose of ruby? How good is it? Is it losing to other languages, or will it one day become one of the most popular languages?

I personnaly find it very interresting and quite easy to grasp, but I don't know it's standing in relation to other coding languages. Can someone who knows better than me please clarify the situation.

I'm pretty sure it won't reach Top 1, sadly, but its a good language for exploits and web development

Ruby is a pure object oriented language and the easiest language to learn.Codes in Ruby are very elegant and easy to read. After completing Ruby you can easily learn Ruby On Rails which is a popular web development language.And there is bunch of successful softwares written in Ruby for linux, windows and apple machines.
