think of a small project first. complete it and then keep improving and expanding that project. remember, no code is final, there is always something that can be added or enhanced. finally, be creative and don't fear failure, you never know what you can accomplish until you try.

Think of something you really wanna do and then do it with Java, even if you don't currently know how to do it yet. Figure it out, find a way to make it work.

1) is it by any means helpful to just hop into ruby, js, python to see what else is there? or better stick to one and discover other things later..?
2) I've an idea of a android app to save names + money values in a specific order.. is that something small and achievable?

1) I think that you need to practice in one language, and later you can go to others.
2) where this data will be stored?
