Is Strings object?

It says that Strings are an object. But some ppl are saying it is just data type, others that it is class. I am confused. Can anyone explain that? Thanks!

pepole doesnt know how to say it short in simple: in java EVERTHING and EVERYTHING is an OBJECT and yes its an datatype it stores data
