Can someone explain the syntax and use of a servlet? I'm not familiar with this concept.

i don't have a specific example at the moment, but lets assume I'm trying to use a sql database, add and remove and change entries

well then i assume you will communicate with your servlet over some kind of protocol you can design depending on the data ofcourse with json format the sevlet will handle the data and push it to the database class of your application that I assume you have this class will contain the connection with the database and execute the modifications on the entries
