I had 35 challenges ongoing in HTML and it said it was my limit. Try it.

The challenge limit varies. It is based on number of challenges in "waiting", or "your turn" states.

When you extend your limit you get a message

"Challenge Limit Reached
Complete your ongoing
challenges and try again
OK"

I even can send a screanshot of that message.
So, sorry, but no it's not "there is not any limit". There is.
