Not really the last time but most memorable book(s) that I read in recent years is (series/trilogy) "The Hammer and the Cross" by Harry Harrison and John Holm (it's outstanding from other Harry Harrison books that are mostly S.Fiction and so on and usually are funny... but not these 3 books!)
