Which language to use for hardware programming??

Question

I want to make a software for a college project car that has a sonar sensor
and what i want is that whenever sonar detect something against it the motor stops .
so can anyone give me the idea what to use and how to use

i'd say C for drivers BIOS, operating systems

you could implement it using the raspberry Pi. raspberry pi can be used primarily by using Python or languages like C , Bash etc.
