SQL or Structured Query Language is just a ANSI standard, and is used as a base with most Database languages. For example : Microsoft SQLServer, Oracle, MySQL, IBM DB2 have used this(SQL) as a base (Query Language) and extended/enhanced in their database systems.

MySQL is a database management system, like SQL Server, Oracle, Informix, Postgres, etc. MySQLis a RDMS (Relational Database Management System). MySQL is a database itself that uses SQLlanguage.

MySQL is working with SQL, like MySQL is a program, that is based on SQL. It's a little bit similar to Linux, there are many distributes (kinds of) linux, but they are from the same root. There are MySQL, SQLite, ... they are different SQL Database implementations. Once you learned SQL and want to use, you should choose which to use, like you can't install Windows, but Windows 7 or 8... like that.

Ohh, and SQL implementations have differences, they add new functionalities specific to that implementation, and some does not support all SQL commands.
