"how useful is an operating system?". c++ is a very powerful generall purpose object oriented programming language that can be used to achieve almost anything, (the sky's your limit).Games, embedded systems, etc.

learning many languages just for the sake of learning has no point in it
first go for the implementation of the language you learnt and when you feel you are comfortable with that
you can go for the other language
