The Meaning in Programming

Can programming bring meaning to your life? Does working on machine learning and artificial intelligence feel like you are creating something special, or does it feel as mundane as accounting? What are your thoughts and experiences?

I've been programming since I was a kid. It's my passion, so in a sense, it IS the meaning of my life. As well, the more that I program, the more I realize that the world around me breaks down in the exact same ways; which betters my understanding of reality itself also. Now for your second question....it just depends what I'm doing. I've been programming for this company for the past decade doing business intelligence and workforce development. Very boring and mundane after awhile, but it was fun in the beginning. I'm shifting over to game programming and getting away from the corporate programming stuff. I'm making this shift to allow me to have creative freedom and the ability to work on things that interest me & are fun. I hate boring and mundane. :D

Well, I currently work in finance/banking and it is not satisfying at all. I was always thinking on programming career, however, chose a different path. Now I just wonder whether programming is a more satisfying/fullfiling path where you could actually feel that you have created something (you do not create anything meaningful in finance..)
