Why does everyone focus on the apex position instead of learning/coding?

The new challenge XP system made it easy to get past your toppers and newbies seems to be highly favoured by that, now the platinum fame is heading to the rock as only a handful of plat members can write good codes since anyone can easily get there without even writing a single code and the majority of plat members are more of challenge bots than coding ones Being a good coder is on your hands, you're responsible for your own future just believe in yourself and try the playgrounds, I bet you'll love it dear

@Karl_T yes, you are right ☺ though I've got to say that there was this person who recently became Platinum by only playing challenges but had posted only 1 code of 9 lines and had not completed a single course here. So, I guess not even challenges can tell us for sure that a user is skilled, specially now that we can see the correct answers, we can easily memorize them and win challenges without even being able to write a real code from scratch. I guess that's why it would be nice to add more requirements for achieving certain levels. @Nomeh had a good idea about adding to the list of requirements that we must have one of our codes officially chosen as Code Of The Day (COTD). Although there's been cases of plagiarism where even COTD's were stolen from other popular sites. As of now, sololearners can choose whether they want to be good players or good coders, or both. Truth is, the way SoloLearn rewards its users makes it difficult for us to distinguish between real skilled coders and tenacious players. Anyways, let's just all try to focus on having fun and improving ourselves😊

Yeah, I don't mind how others use this app either. There are sololearners with different profiles, such as: just players, real coders or both. But I've learned that the xp and medals could be misleading sometimes, they could be just telling us the amount of free time these users invest in this platform. This is why I think that in order for us to reach a high level and medal, we should comply with certain requirements other than xp. For instance, a Platinum member should have accomplished 20k xp + certain badges (like Code ninja) + Full chart (100% in all areas), so we can easily identify skilled coders who are also good players ☺

😊 personally i don't care how others choose to use this platform. As long as they do not disturb other members learning experience by spamming/being mean etc they can use it how ever they want in my opinion. If they only want xp points go for it I say

I used to think that a full pie chart + platinum would be a better indicator of skill, but not really anymore. Most of that is based on likes, which are highly subjective. For example, there is Alex, who has more than 22k followers and is only level 9 with nothing particular accomplished. He has 100% influencer chart and does not post anything. Then there are people with 100% coder chart, who have codes like factorial calculation or other simple codes that have over 30+ likes. There are also very helpful people on SL who have next to no followers. All that remains after that are challenge stats, which are not an indicator of skill either, but are more objective than the rest of the other components of the pie chart.

😀 I think everyone has basically said the same thing. That the level/badge system should not be looked at as a skill level.

Yes @pαolα, to make it even more special Sololearn should make it a must for each person to get his/her code on the activity feed before they come into the platinum club.

How can I agree with everyone when you've all said something slightly different? All stats here are based on how much time u put in, bottom line, whether in challenge, posts, codes, followers, whatever. I think its up to each individual to make sure that time isn't wasted. It does make me wonder though when I see someone with more xp and no codes, or no posts, or both. (especially with no weapons, like, wtf?) I barely do challenges tho, so that's going to affect my stats. Personally, I didn't want Gold until I felt I had earned it, (getting a certain code to a certain level I expect), but I got a new badge randomly so I got Gold anyway. Doesn't mean much. My code still isn't where I want it.

Thanks for this @Nomeh and as @Krishna Sir said somewhere and I seconded him, all some care about is: 1. How to get epic badge 2. How to reach that level 3. How to top globally or locally or whatever etc. But the truth is those who really are here to study, contribute and make the best out of here, read widely, do lots of research and provide their own codes from scratch. Frankly speaking, lots of great minds here inspired and still do to put me where I am now. To mention few @Krishna, @Nikolay, @Cheeze, @Burey, @Nomeh, @Wisdom, @Maz lots of them. SoloLearn is a great platform and if you are here just to show off by some dubious means. The truth is you are actually lying to yourself. I don't think attention should be given to them at all. If you are a real Sololearner, very informative contributor and genuinely obtain badges, YOU SHOULD BE PROUD OF YOURSELF. I rest my case....Happy Coding!

But you have to respect someone who wins 200+ challenges a day. For example Nikolay reaching level 17 is quite an accomplishment!

This is the same concern that I have that make me to post this, although in a joke manner... https://www.sololearn.com/discuss/512508/?ref=app I think this new found quest would not help newbies to really become proficient coders as they aspire to be and as SoloLearn hopes they become... ^-^

I have also made a chess game in java full from scratch! but can't post it here as SoloLearn don't support projects but only single classes.

Eh, some will like without checking out the actual code. Hit and miss. I don't care about upvotes and all that, I mean, they are encouraging, but I am not coding for someone's approval. </Off topic>

@Manifest Destiny, there's absolutely no need for you to learn before you reach the platinum level as some of the new plat members never learned a single language but this did not stop them from achieving what they want since a newbie can easily memorize each answer to any quiz he failed as you can find the correct answers once you finish the challenge... as long as there's a “view the correct answers” option below every completed challenge, Sololearn will remain a place for quick fake fame to many.

Well... I'm actually surprised that fame is the thing for some persons here. I just joined yesterday, because I want to learn. Beyond being a Web develop... I want to be more. It's been pretty cool so far

For example I have made a class for Discriptive Statistics https://code.sololearn.com/czYLD2Yr8RHl/?ref=app and having only 2 likes on it!!!(Made it with much efforts) and like this stupid code https://code.sololearn.com/c0q9CgJ3NCJD/?ref=app is having 2K+ likes. #Community_Thats_Not_Fair

I and Sjoerd Flameling have made and making android applications and games too but on SoloLearn our fame is a little low, many don't recognise me as a good coder 😥 also because of my low level and some loses because of my a little weak maths

Off topic, but here's a workaround for that. @Aayushman If your game works, stand alone, upload it to Google drive/Dropbox or something, then post a web code with a link to it if its that important for you to share.
