Where I live: usually a basic knowledge of the language and around 2 years experience. However, you can easily just hone your skills on it and focus on it, and then be able to show them what you're capable of doing.

First off, I want to say this up front, never stop at one resource and treat it as the absolute. Go to various resources and read what they have, and then practice it so you can solidify your knowledge on it. I would read all of vanilla Javascript first, and then I would learn something like AngularJS, jQuery, and NodeJS. Also, you'll want to read through SQL, and maybe another backend language like PHP or ASP.NET.
