There's are tons of programming languages out there, even some that are created just for a particular problem set. learning all of them will mean you would have nothing else to do with your life.

No. You may expose yourself to 50 tops. You will not like about half of them. Of the other half, you will choose to learn less than a handful for deeper learning. You may well be an exception who can program at lightning speed in 23 totally unrelated languages. You will remain that - an exception. For us mere mortals, there are far too many languages and attempting to learn all of them will spread us out too thin. If it sounds familiar, it is because the argument is based on spoken languages. There are 1000s of them. 100 new may be born each day and 100s may die each day. Most of us can speak maximum of 6 7 languages while the mad geniuses among us can speak 17 may be 29. This does not preclude you from being a linguist. A linguist knows about many languages, their properties, and many more. But a linguist is by no means an expert in the languages he knows about. So to answer your question, a big, loud, no.

Maybe, with years of learning. But mastering them is another matter.
