I am interested in automation of mechanical parts. Is Python the right language to learn?

Python is fine for projects based on Raspberry Pi. Sensors, motors, LEDs and all that. Check out what @seamiki writes about his experience with RPi here on Sololearn.

With Assembly he may go too deep into it :) , so C and C++ are enough.
